Geneseo wins 2018 SUNYAC women's cross country title

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Geneseo won its eighth-straight and 18th overall State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's cross country championship, Saturday in Fredonia with a team score of 15. Elise Ramirez (Nesconset, N.Y./Sachem North) crossed the line first for the second-straight year, finishing the 6k course in 24:02.8 for the Knights.

The Cortland Red Dragons finished second with a team score of 107 while New Paltz was third (113). Geneseo teammates Genny Corcoran (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) and Allie Fernandez (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished behind Ramirez in second (24:04.0) and third (24:18.7) place respectively.

The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. This year's women's cross country Elite 20 winner is the sophomore from New Paltz, Cassandra Williams who majors in mathematics and currently has a 4.00 grade point average. 

The All-SUNYAC team consists of the top 15 finishers at the championship meet with the first five finishers on the first team, 6-10 on the second team and 11-15 on the third team.

To earn SUNYAC Cross Country Championship Hall of Fame status a runner must finish in the top-five once, top-ten twice, or top-15 three times throughout their running career at the conference meet.
