Brockport Baseball Falls to Rowan in Game One of Regionals, Set to Face Arcadia Saturday

Ambler, PA – In the first game for Brockport at the NCAA DIII Championships Regional Round, the Golden Eagles fell to #23 Rowan, 12-3. Brockport now will take on host, Arcadia University on Saturday morning at 8:30am.
 
Adam Douglas (L, 5-5) started on the mound for the Golden Eagles, pitching 5.2 innings. He let up ten hits for six runs and had one walk with four strikeouts. Justin Pangburn had a strong showing at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort that contributed two RBIs. Both Pangburn and Nicholas Pastore connected for doubles in the contest.
 
Rowan started the game off hot with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brockport scored one run in the top of the second, in response. After Patrick Bigham was walked, Ryan Voight singled to left center to advance Bigham to second. Justin Pangburn then connected for a single down the left foul line, bringing home Bigham for the score. Brockport trailed, 4-1, heading into the third inning.

In the third, Rowan added a run in the bottom half of the inning to go up 5-1. After a couple of scoreless innings, Brockport scored their second run in the top of the sixth inning. Nicholas Pastore hit a double down the right field line to get in scoring position. Zach Edlred was hit by a pitch, but quickly moved to second on a balk that also put Pastore on third. Bigham chipped into the lead with a single to right center. Pastore scored scored on the play, but Eldred was tagged out on his way to home plate.
 
Leading, 5-2, Rowan scored their sixth run in the bottom of the sixth. The squad scored four more runs in the bottom of the seventh, extending its lead over Brockport to 10-2. Rowan scored two more times in the bottom of the eighth to added more cushion.
 
Brockport scored the final run of the game in the top of the ninth inning, finalzing the score at 12-3. Voight reached first by a throwing error and advanced to second on a passed ball shortly after. Pangburn rattled off a double down the left foul line to bring Voight around to score. The Green and Gold didn't get any closer, resulting in Rowan's opening day victory at regionals. The team will advance to face Susquehanna on Saturday at noon.

Colin Pytlak pitched 0.2 innings letting up four hits, four runs and one walk. Michael Heilig pitched 1.2 innings while letting up two hits for two runs, striking out one batter.
 
Brockport will face #21 Arcadia University tomorrow morning at 8:30am in an elimination game. The winner advances, while the losing team's season will come to an end. Arcadia fell into the elimination game after falling to Susquehannah University, 14-9, in extra innings.
