VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Buffalo State men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the opening day of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, with Chris Kaszynski (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) finishing in ninth place in the pole vault, and Tyler McGrath (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) taking 14th place in the 200-meter dash.

Kaszynski broke his own school record in the pole vault, as he cleared a mark of 4.93 meters in the event. Entering the meet in 20th place, the junior cleared the first three progressions on his first attempt. The third progression of 4.88 meters set the new school record, surpassing Kaszynski's seed time of 4.84 meters. He then continued by clearing 4.93 meters on his second attempt. Kaszynski was unable to clear 4.98 meters on his three attempts, and finished in ninth place after a few competitors surpassed that mark.

Competing in his first national championship meet, McGrath was seeded in eighth place. He competed in heat three of the 200-meter dash, and finished with a time of 21.77 seconds for a season-best mark, and finished third in the heat. McGrath was seven-hundredths of a second from the eighth qualifying spot in the finals.
