SUNYAC Releases 2024 Men's Indoor Track and Field Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces the 2024 Men's Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coaching Staff of the Year awards as voted on by the conference coaches. 

Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year – Lance Jensen, Geneseo
Jensen was the 2024 national champion in the 400-meter run. He finished the race in 46.95 which is the third fastest all-time in Division III. Jensen won the SUNYAC title in the same event and holds the school and conference records. Jensen was also part of the 1600-meter relay team that placed fifth at the NCAA Division III championships.

Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year – Amarian Hughes, Cortland
Hughes was the SUNYAC champion in the triple jump at this year's league championship meet. He went on to earn All-American honors in the triple jump with a a seventh place finish at the NCAA Division III championships and earned All-Regional recognition. Hughes also competed in the long jump and finished seventh at the 2024 conference championship meet.

Men's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year – Ryan Hagan, Geneseo
In his first collegiate track season, Hagan ran 4:10.25 to win the AARTFC championship in the mile and post an NCAA qualifying mark. He finished 12th in the preliminaries at the NCAA Division III championships. Hagan was second in the mile at the 2024 SUNYAC championship meet. He also ran the 800-meter and finished ninth.

Men's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year - Geneseo
The Geneseo men's track and field coaching staff is led by head coach Chris Popovici, and he is assisted by Dan Moore, Kyle Rollins, Ashton Fischer, Christian Johnson, Kieran Sheridan, Dan Reynolds and Gwen Shepardson. This season, the Knights won their seventh-straight and 14th overall SUNYAC title. The staff coached the team to a 10th place finish at the NCAA Division III championships with a national champion, Lance Jensen, in the 400-meter run. The 4x400 relay team earned first-team All-American recognition with a fifth place finish and there were two second-team All-American performances in the long jump and the mile.
