Geneseo Volleyball Sets NCAA Record

A pair of NCAA Division III records fell tonight in the Carl Schrader Gymnasium as the University of Rochester Yellowjackets (6-2) defeated the host Geneseo women's volleyball team by a score of 3-1.
In the opener, Geneseo set a new Division III record for points in a single set using the 25-point format with a 42-40 win. The previous record was set by Washington U. of St. Louis with 41 in 2009. After a Geneseo service error, sophomore Alex Wende posted a kill and a Rochester hitting error gave Geneseo the win on their fifth chance to capture the contest. Rochester had eight chances to win in the set, the last coming at 39-38 before a service error.
Rochester controlled the second and third set, winning 25-16, 25-18, before setting an NCAA Division III record for points in a four-set match using the 25-point format with a 26-24 win in the fourth and final set for a total of 116. The previous mark was 109 by Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2008.
