Fredonia's Yirinec and Kuczewski tabbed as SUNYAC Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Fredonia senior Kevin Yirinec (Fairport, N.Y.) and his teammate, senior Luke Kuczewski (Orchard, Park, N.Y.) as the SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Yirinec paced Fredonia in a three-game sweep of New Paltz this past week. Kevin was 5-for-10 in conference play, driving in 7 runs in the sweep, pushing the Devils to 6-0 in the SUNYAC. He added a homerun, pair of walks and a stolen base in the series. Yirinec also had a 6-RBI game, with 3 doubles in 12-4 win over Utica. He finished the week going 8-for-16 with 13 RBI and 7 runs in six games, including 5 walks for a .619 on-base percentage.

Kuczewski tossed a complete game in the opening game of a SUNYAC sweep of New Paltz this past week. He went 9 innings, striking out 10 and walking none, allowing a single run in the fourth inning. He opened the game striking out the side, setting the tone for the series. He allowed only one hit through the first six innings while the Devil offense put the game away. It was his second 9-inning effort in SUNYAC play, and improved his record to 3-0. Kuczewski also tossed an inning of scoreless relief midweek vs. Utica. His line for the week was 10 innings pitched, 11 strikeouts, no walks, and a 0.90 ERA.
