Athletes of the Week Announced

 

The SUNYAC players of the week encompass all games from January 3 to 9. The conference is recognizing men's ice hockey and men's and women's basketball this week. Swimming and diving and indoor track and field weekly honors will resume on January 17th.
 
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER - Brockport
Ian Finnerty, junior forward

Junior Ian Finnerty (Ardmore, Pa./Philly Little Flyers) notched three goals and six assists in a 2-1 week for Brockport. In a 9-6 win against Western New England Friday, Finnerty figured in six of the Golden Eagles' nine goals, tallying two goals and four assists. It was the first time a Brockport player had six points in a game since 2000. In Saturday's action, he contributed two more assists. Earlier in the week, he scored a goal against No. 15 Hobart. The nine-point week brought his season point total to 20.

ICE HOCKEY GOALIE - Plattsburgh
Josh Leis, sophomore goalie

Sophomore Josh Leis (Kitchener, ONT/Listowl Cyclones) helped lead Plattsburgh to a 1-0-1 week against strong competition, including a win against nationally ranked No. 7 Norwich on Tuesday. Leis made 27 saves as the Cardinals defeated the defending national champion Cadets, 7-4. In a 2-2 tie Saturday against Elmira, Leis stopped 25 shots, including a combined 16 in the third period and overtime. Leis is 9-1-1 on the season.

ICE HOCKEY CO-ROOKIE - Brockport
Joe Reagan, freshman goalie

Freshman Joe Reagan (Yonkers, NY/ NY Bobcats) stopped 20 shots and did not allow a goal in 32 minutes against No. 15 Hobart Tuesday. He then went 2-0 against Western New England over the weekend. In the two games against the Golden Bears, Reagan made a combined 43 saves. For the week, he finished with a .926 save percentage and 2.13 goals-against average.

ICE HOCKEY CO-ROOKIE - Geneseo
Rich Manley, freshman forward

Freshman Rich Manley (Buffalo, NY/Burnaby Express) doubled his season point total to 16 after an eight-point weekend in two Geneseo wins against Franklin Pierce. In Friday's 8-2 win, he tallied a goal and three assists. In Saturday's 5-1 win, Manley figured in four of Geneseo's five goals, netting two goals and two assists. He was also credited with the game-winning goal.
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL - Potsdam
Curtis Pierce, sophomore guard/forward

Potsdam sophomore swingman Curtis Pierce (Brooklyn, NY/George Wessinghouse) averaged a double-double in three games last week, including two SUNYAC wins. He was the game-high scorer in those two home wins - 18 points and 13 rebounds in a 74-60 victory over Brockport, and 18 points and eight rebounds in a 55-54 double-over win over Geneseo. Pierce leads the Bears in scoring average (13.3), rebounding average (8.5), and field goal percentage (.563).
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Geneseo
Brittany Finkle, senior forward

Geneseo senior Brittany Finkle (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor) averaged 12 points and seven rebounds while shooting 67 percent from the field to help the Blue Knights to three victories last week. Against Alfred on Jan. 4, Finkle recorded team highs of 15 points and nine rebounds in a 75-49 road win. Three days later, she contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals in Geneseo's 60-43 triumph at Plattsburgh. Finkle posted eight points, five rebounds and two steals at Potsdam on Jan. 8, a 62-48 Geneseo win.
