Six Ice Hockey Players Tabbed All-American

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Six student-athletes from four SUNYAC schools were recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) as 2011 Division III Reebok Men's Hockey All-America East Team honorees as announced Thursday evening in conjunction with this weekend’s NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Championships in Minneapolis. 
 
Fredonia State senior Jordan Oye, SUNYAC Player of the Year, and Oswego State junior goalie Paul Beckwith were named to the first team.  Second Team selections included Fredonia’s Steve Rizer, Oswego’s Ian Boots and Plattsburgh’s Eric Satim, while Geneseo’s Danny Scagnelli was voted to the third team.

Beckwith has posted a 19-2-0 record so far this season, including two shutouts, prior to the NCAA Final Four.  The second-team All-SUNYAC honoree currently ranks third nationally with a 1.93 goals against average and fourth with a .929 save percentage.  During the regular season, Beckwith set a new conference record for wins in a season with 15 and paced the league in goals against average (1.87) and save percentage (.932).

Boots leads Oswego with 39 points and 25 assists to go along with 14 goals.  The First Team All-SUNYAC selection led the conference in points with 28 and assists with 19.

The Lakers, who are 23-4-0, will face Adrian, which is 24-3-1, in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Championship in Minneapolis on Friday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m. Oswego State earned its trip to Minnesota by defeating Bowdoin, 7-5, in the quarterfinal round.
 
Oye and Rizer were instrumental in leading Fredonia to a 14-13-1 overall record and a #6 seed in the conference tournament with a league record of 7-8-1. Fredonia defeated #3 Buffalo State in the quarterfinals and upset No. 1 Oswego in the semifinals to become the first #6 seed in the tournament finals before falling to Plattsburgh.
 
Oye scored 17 goals and had 23 assists in 27 games. Three of his goals were short-handed and two were game-winners. Overall, he ranked 13th in scoring in NCAA Division III with 40 points. 

Rizer, a first-team all-conference selection, had two goals and 15 assists during the SUNYAC regular season and three goals and 29 assists overall. His 32 points in 28 games (1.14 points per game) ranked third among NCAA Division III defensemen through March 21. This is Rizer’s second straight All-American honor.
 
Satim, a senior out of Montreal, Quebec, was a first-team SUNYAC All-Conference honoree.  He led the Plattsburgh offense with 22 assists and 35 points, with 20 of those points coming in conference play.  Plattsburgh posted a 20-8-1 record on the season, claimed its 20th SUNYAC Championship and secured an automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament, where the Cardinals lost in overtime to Norwich in the Quarterfinals.
 
Scagnelli led Geneseo defensemen and was fourth on the team in scoring seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points, which stood 21st for NCAA Division III defensemen. The Ice Knights posted a 16-8-2 record, finished second in the SUNYAC regular season and were ranked as high as sixth in the USCHO.com Division III poll.
