SUNYAC ANNOUNCES MEN'S ICE HOCKEY ANNUAL AWARDS

 

FREDONIA The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its 2009-10 Ice Hockey Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year awards.
 
Oswego freshman forward Jon Whitelaw (Huntsville, Ont.) was named the 2009-10 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year. In conference play, he scored eight goals and had fourteen assists.  Whitelaw earned SUNYAC Rookie of the Week honors three times this year.
 
The 2009-10 Herb Hammond Most Valuable Player of the Year was Oswego’s sophomore forward Eric Selleck (Spencerville, Ont.). Selleck had fourteen goals and twenty-five assists in conference play, and was named the SUNYAC Player of the Week on two occasions. Herb Hammond was a coach for 12 years at Oswego and two additional years at Plattsburgh. He was named National Coach of the Year in 1981 while coaching at Plattsburgh. He also spent 17 years as an NHL scout for several teams.
 
Oswego’s head coach Ed Gosek earned Coach of the Year honors. The Lakers (23-2-0, 15-1-0) worked their way to the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC Playoffs. They will host no. 6 seed Morrisville Saturday night, while no. 2 Plattsburgh will host no. 4 Brockport. Game times are at 7 p.m.
