Kohler and Marshall Earn ECAC Weekly Honors

Cortland sophomore outfielder Meaghan Kohler and Plattsburgh junior pitcher Ashley Marshall have been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Upstate New York Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 8.

Kohler hit .391 (9-for-23) with four home runs, a double, 17 runs batted in and seven runs scored in a 6-0 week, all on the road, for the Red Dragons. In a doubleheader sweep at Buffalo State on Saturday, Kohler hit a grand slam and drove in five runs in each game. She finished the twinbill a combined 5-for-9 with two homers, a double and 10 RBI. She also hit two home runs, including a two-run shot in the fourth to give Cortland a 2-1 lead, in a 6-1 win Friday at Fredonia. Kohler leads Cortland this spring with eight homers and 42 RBI in 26 games. The Red Dragons are 22-4 and ranked 14th nationally in Div. III.

Marshall earns weekly honors after picking up three wins to help Plattsburgh to a 4-0 weekend against conference opponents. On Friday against Oneonta, the Malone, N.Y. native threw her fifth shutout after racking up 12 strikeouts and only allowing three hits and one walk in a 4-0 win. On Saturday, Marshall earned wins in both ends of the doubleheader against New Paltz. In the first game, she came on in relief during the sixth inning of a tie game to record five strikeouts to help Plattsburgh to a 4-3 win in eight innings. The junior standout started the second game, surrendering two runs and three hits in the first inning before settling down to throw five scoreless innings and finish her 11th complete game. Marshall allowed just two walks and two earned runs on the week while compiling 22 strikeouts.
