Noll and Pezdek Earn SUNYAC Softball Athlete of the Week Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The SUNYAC names Plattsburgh's Gwen Noll the Softball Athlete of the Week and Buffalo State's Izzy Pezdek the Pitcher of the Week.

Noll enjoyed a strong week for Plattsburgh, working as the catalyst for the Cardinal offense at the top of the order. The sophomore catcher finished the week 7-17 (.417 AVG) and had an on-base percentage of .583, reaching base a total of 14 times. Noll had three multi-hit games, drove in five total runs, scored eight runs, and swiped three bases. Her week was highlighted by a 2-3 performance in a win over Southern Virginia, as her three-run triple gave Plattsburgh the lead for good and she also scored three times, walked twice, and stole a base.

Pezdek had a stellar first week of her collegiate pitching career, compiling a 2-1 record with a 1.11 earned run average and 19 strikeouts across 25.1 innings with three complete games last week. Opposing hitters batted just .189 against Pezdek for the week, At the plate, she also helped the team with six hits and drove in four runs. The freshman tossed two scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts against Framingham St on Monday morning, before allowing just one earned run in 1.1 innings against Amherst later in the day. Earning her first collegiate start on Tuesday against Old Westbury, Pezdek threw a complete game to lead Buffalo State to a 2-1 victory, allowing just five hits and one earned run in 8.0 innings. She followed it up with a hard-luck 2-0 loss to Clarkson on Thursday, pitching 7.0 innings and striking out eight batters while allowing only two earned runs. On Saturday, Pezdek pitched her third complete game of the week, allowing one earned run with five strikeouts over 7.0 innings in a 3-2 win over Kalamazoo.
