Rometo and Roman Take SUNYAC Softball Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – New Paltz teammates Jackie Rometo and Lindsay Roman earn SUNYAC Softball Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week respectively.

Rometo led the Hawks offensive efforts in a pair of SUNYAC sweeps over Oswego and Cortland Saturday and Sunday. She produced nine hits with seven RBI and three stolen bases, while hitting .750 with an on-base-percentage of .800 and a slugging percentage of .750. In game one against Oswego, she hit 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base, while in game two she hit 3-for-4 with three RBI with her 2 of her 3 RBI coming in clutch, as she tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. She then hit 1-for-2 with a run scored against Cortland in game one, which helped the Hawks to a 3-0 win. In game two, she was perfect at the plate, hitting 4-for-4 with one run and four RBI and a walk in a 16-10 victory. Rometo also had 10 putouts and no errors in the field.

Roman made three appearances for the Hawks in their opening SUNYAC weekend and all three turned into wins as she was lights out to help her team in two series sweeps over Oswego and Cortland. Against Oswego Saturday, she threw a full seven innings, giving up just six hits, one walk and one earned run with seven strikeouts in a 3-1 victory. In the opening game against Cortland Sunday, she earned her third complete game shutout victory of the year, after tossing a full seven innings, allowing just four hits with no walks and added three strikeouts in a dominant performance. She was needed in relief to help hold off the Red Dragons in game two and produced, as she pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowed just one earned run with a strikeout to earn the win in a 16-10 victory, improving her overall record to 7-3 on the season.
