Brittany Cohen Selected to Academic All-District Team

SUNY Cortland senior guard Brittany Cohen (Fayetteville/Jamesville-DeWitt) has been selected to the 2011-12 Capital One Division III Academic All-District Women’s Basketball first team for District 3. The team was chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Under a new structure this year, NCAA Division III schools are no longer combined with other divisions for CoSIDA academic awards. In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. Cohen is now eligible for national Academic All-America honors by virtue of her first-team all-district selection. The Division III national team will be announced on Feb. 21.

Cohen is a kinesiology major who entered the spring semester with a 3.87 cumulative grade point average. Through 20 games this season, Cohen leads Cortland with 13.6 points, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She’s shooting 77 percent from the foul line and has scored in double figures 17 times.

Cohen is in her second season with the Red Dragons after previously attending Assumption College and Onondaga Community College. As a junior at Cortland last year, Cohen was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year and earned honorable mention All-America honors after averaging 15.3 points and 6.1 assists per game.
