Buffalo State's McElroy Tabbed as SUNYAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Buffalo State guard Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season after becoming the 13th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

The junior psychology major averaged 17.5 points and 9.0 rebounds as Buffalo State closed the regular season with road victories over Oswego and Cortland to clinch the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC playoffs.  She needed just 15 points entering the Oswego game to reach 1,000 for her career, and took care of that with 17 in the first half, before finishing the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  McElroy is second on the team this season, averaging 12.2 points-per-game.

Buffalo State’s 23 regular season wins set a new school record.  The Bengals (23-2/16-2) are the top seed entering the SUNYAC tournament and will open with a quarterfinal contest at home tomorrow night against No. 8 Fredonia at 7 p.m.  Tickets will be available at the door for $5 for the public and $2 for students.  The first 200 Buffalo State students with valid ID will be admitted free.
