SUNYAC HONORS SPRING ATHLETES FOR THE WEEK OF MAR 7- MAR 13

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK -  Jake Williams (SO)  
New Paltz, OF/RHP (Seaford, NY/Seaford)
Jake Williams from the State University of New York at New Paltz went 6-for-9 at the plate with three scored runs as the Hawks split a doubleheader with Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday. In the 9-1 victory over the Knights, Williams notched two RBIs and a double and collected an assist in the outfield in the bottom of the second that resulted in a double play to close the inning. In the 5-4 loss, Williams went 3-of-4 at the plate with one scored run, a double and a triple. Currently, Williams holds a .643 slugging percentage with 12 hits, five scored runs, five RBIs and 18 total bases.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Nominee: Turner Parry (SR)  
Cortland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee)
Parry retired all 11 batters he faced, eight by strikeout, to earn the win in relief as nationally top-ranked Cortland defeated second-ranked Wisconsin-La Crosse, 4-3, in 10 innings in Auburndale, Fla. Parry entered with one out and runners on second and third and the game tied at 3-3 in the top of the seventh. He struck out two batters to escape that jam, then retired the side in order in the eighth, ninth and 10th innings (with two strikeouts in each inning) before Cortland won the game in the bottom of the 10th.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Matt Moran (JR)  
Potsdam, Midfield (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart)
Moran had a career-best six points on three goals and three assists in Potsdam's 18-9 blowout of Utica College on Saturday. 

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Pete Gropp (SR)  
Potsdam (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport)
Gropp made 12 saves to help Potsdam to an 18-9 victory over Utica College on Saturday. 

WOMEN'S LACROSSE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Ashley Gentile (SR)  
Cortland, Midfield (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker)
In three wins for the top-ranked Red Dragons, two against ranked opponents, Gentile totaled 15 points on 14 goals and one assist, won 23 draw controls and collected five ground balls. In an 18-4 home victory versus Ithaca on Tuesday, she scored four goals and added seven draws and two ground balls. Gentile followed up with six points on five goals and one assist, six draws and three ground balls in a 19-8 win at #18 Union College and finished the week with five goals and 10 draws in a 19-7 triumph over #17 Catholic at Mount Sinai High School on Sunday.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jaclyn Beshlian (JR) 
Cortland (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh)
Beshlian posted a 3-0 record with a 6.00 GAA, 24 saves, a .585 save percentage and 12 ground balls in three wins for the #1-ranked Red Dragons last week. In an 18-4 home win versus Ithaca on Tuesday, Beshlian stopped six shots. In a 19-8 win at #18 Union on Thursday, she made nine saves, collected six ground balls and allowed six goals in 50:00. She finished the week with nine saves and five ground balls in a victory against #17 Catholic on Sunday at Mount Sinai.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK- Lindsay Wachna (SO)  
Brockport, IF (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga)
Lindsay Wachna's dominance at the plate helped The College at Brockport softball team to a 4-2 start this week. The sophomore is batting .533 (8-for-15) including three doubles, one triple and one home run, and has yet to strike out. Wachna led the team with eight runs batted in this week and scored two runs herself. The Syracuse, N.Y. native tabbed first home run of the season on Saturday in a 11-8 extra innings win over the University of Saint Joseph's. Wachna launched the ball over the fence in left center field to bring home one Golden Eagle and herself. Wachna had an incredible day at the plate against Salem State University, going a perfect four-for-four with three doubles and three runs batted in.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK- Jaime Berger (SR)  
Brockport (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich)
Jaime Berger went 2-1 this week as the Golden Eagles went 4-2 at the Gene Cusic Classic in Lee County, Fla. Berger had a 0.79 earned run average with 25 strikeouts and 13 hits over 17.2 innings pitched. In the first game of the season, Berger pitched a complete game shutout and struck out 10 while allowing only five hits. The senior went the distance again on Sunday, striking out nine and allowing one run for the win. Berger pitched 3.2 innings of relief and struck out six in her lone loss of the week. Berger also had a strong performance at the plate, going three-for-seven with one run batted in.
