Oneonta leads Commissioner's Cup after fall

CORTLAND, N.Y. – At the completion of a competitive fall season, Oneonta is leading the race for the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup.

After winning both the men's and women's soccer SUNYAC championships the Red Dragons have taken the lead over last year's Commissioner's Cup winner, Geneseo with an average of 8.21 points. Oneonta also finished second in women's cross country, third in men's cross country and tied for third in the women's tennis championship tournament

Geneseo is trailing  behind with an average of 7.46 points. The Knights took home three SUNYAC championship titles this fall in men's and women's cross country, and women's tennis. Geneseo also finished the regular-season as the No. 3 seed in women's soccer and field hockey.

Brockport rounds out the top three performing schools with an impressive fall season averaging 6.60 points. The Golden Eagles won the volleyball SUNYAC championship and their men's soccer team came in second place. In addition, Brockport's women's tennis finished tied for third in the SUNYAC championship.

The Commissioner's Cup is given to the member school that exhibits the strongest overall athletic program for the academic year. Each school is measured by the performances of their respective teams that compete in conference sports. A 10-point system based on the 20 conference sports determines the annual winner. The Cup is named for Dr. Damore, the long-time SUNYAC Commissioner who retired in 2012.
