The Commissioner's Cup is given to the member school that exhibits the strongest overall athletic program for the academic year. Each school is measured by the performances of their respective teams that compete in conference sports. A 10-point system based on the 20 conference sports determines the annual winner. The Cup is named for the first time this year for Dr. Damore, the long-time SUNYAC Commissioner who retired in 2012.
In the fall, Geneseo claimed three SUNYAC titles. Geneseo won its ninth SUNYAC championship in tennis after defeating New Paltz 5-0. Geneseo took home both men's and women's cross country championships.
Geneseo's men's ice hockey, men's swimming and diving and women's swimming and diving captured SUNYAC titles for the Knights in the winter. It was the 22nd SUNYAC title for the men, and 23rd for the women in swimming and diving.
During the spring, Geneseo didn't win any championships, but was able to hold off Cortland's late push for the cup.
Cortland finished second in the Commissioner's Cup with an average of 7.50 points. The Cortland Red Dragons won championships in men's basketball, and men's indoor track and field in the winter, after no fall championships. In the Spring, Cortland made a serious push for the Commisioner's Cup, winning the SUNYAC title in men's outdoor track and field, men's and women's lacrosse, softball and baseball.
Oneonta finished third after winning both men's and women's soccer and women's indoor and outdoor track and field championships. Oneonta averaged 7.32 points.
