The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men’s ice hockey regular season came to an end Saturday and the top six teams in the standings will now advance to the 2011-2012 tournament.
Oswego State closed out the regular season at 21-2-2 overall and 14-0-2 in the SUNYAC standings and will be in the number one seed in the tournament receiving a first round bye. The Cardinals, who are the No. 2-seed in the SUNYAC Playoffs, will also get a first round bye with a 17-4-4 overall record and 12-3-1 in the league.
No. 3 Buffalo State will host No. 6-seeded Potsdam in a SUNYAC quarterfinal contest on Wednesday Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. The Bears won both games during the regular season, 3-2 and 5-1.
Geneseo will serve as the No. 4 seed and take on fifth-seeded Fredonia on Wednesday. The Knights defeated the Blue Devils at home 2-1 in late October before Fredonia avenged the loss at home, 4-2, a month ago.
Oswego will face the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals on Saturday Feb. 25 and Plattsburgh will play the other winner from the quarterfinals. The finals are slated for Saturday March 3.
