Plattsburgh and Oswego Receive First Round NCAA Tournament Byes

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Committee announced the 11 teams set to compete of the NCAA Division III championship.  

Plattsburgh State (19-4-4), who earned an automatic bid to the tournament as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) champions, received a first-round bye and will travel to Amherst (23-3-1) for an NCAA quarterfinal game on Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. The Cardinals are making their fifth-straight appearance and NCAA-record 20th overall in the tournament.
The Oswego State men's ice hockey team was one of three teams to receive an at-large bid into the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Lakers (22-3-2) will host a quarterfinal game against the Elmira Soaring Eagles (15-8-3) on Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. Oswego State won the opening season series over Elmira by the scores of 7-3 and 6-2.

The tournament begins Wednesday with three first-round games with the quarterfinal matchups to follow on Saturday. The Division III Final Four will take place March 16-17 at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y.
