Three Standout in Opening Weekend of Conference Play

 

The second weekend of the season is complete including the first weekend of conference play in men's ice hockey and the SUNYAC had several standout performances.
 
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY PLAYER – Geneseo
David Arduin (Halfmoon Bay, BC), senior forward
The Geneseo men’s ice hockey team got off to a hot start in conference play over the weekend, with a 4-3 overtime win against Buffalo State and a 2-1 victory over Fredonia. Senior David Arduin finished with two goals and two assists as Geneseo stands atop the leader board with four points. Down 3-1 to Buffalo State, Arduin netted a power play goal at 13:40 of the third period and then assisted on the equalizer with .09 seconds remaining. In the overtime, he was right back in the action picking up an assist on the game-winner just 17 seconds into the extra frame. On Saturday, Arduin scored the game-winning goal at the 3:46 mark of the third period to give #12 Geneseo the win over Fredonia. He has scored a goal in each of the team's three games this season.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE – Plattsburgh
Mark Constantine (Haddonfield, NJ/ The Hill School), forward
The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team emerged on the winning end of its season opener with a 6-4 conference road win to Morrisville. Freshman Mark Constantine netted two goals in his collegiate debut to earn Rookie of the Week honors. Constantine put the Cardinals up 2-1 in the first period and then scored the only mark of the second period, a power-play goal at 11:14 to give Plattsburgh a 4-3 advantage.
 
MEN’S ICE HOCKEY GOALIE – Geneseo
Adrian Rubeniuk (Grandview, Manitoba), junior
The Ice Knights rode the hot hand of junior goalie Adrian Rubeniuk in the 2-1 victory over Fredonia. Rubeniuk stopped 29 of 30 shots over the course of 60 minutes. For his performance, he has been named the SUNYAC Men’s Ice Hockey Goalie of the Week. He made 17 saves in the first two periods before the Blue Devils tied the game at 1-1 20 seconds into the third. The Ice Knights were outshot 13-6 in the final period but managed to net the game winner and hold on as Rubeniuk turned aside 12 shots in the third.
