SUNYAC announces top awards for men's cross country

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) finalized the annual men's cross country honors for the 2017 season which include Rookie of the Year, Runner of the Year, and Coach of the Year awards voted on by conference coaches.  

Rookie of the Year - Bradley Farnham, Geneseo

Farnham, a native of Penfield, N.Y. had an outstanding start to his career. The freshman runner competed in five meets for the Knights during the 2017 season, with top-fifty appearances in three of those competitions. On September 1, Farnham finished eleventh at the Brockport Early Season meet (6k) with a time of 19:35.8. At the SUNYAC Championships, the rookie runner placed 38th to propel the Knights to their fourth straight conference title. 

 

Runner of the Year - Isaac Garcia-Cassani, Geneseo

The senior standout finished his distinguished cross country career with a second straight Runner of the Year award. A native of Holbrook, Cassani continued his dominance on the trails this season, placing first in three of the six races he competed in. At the SUNYAC Championships, Garcia-Cassani won the race for the third straight year, finishing nearly twelve seconds ahead of the second-place finisher with a time of 26:42.9. His effort earned a spot on First-Team All-Conference for the third time and led Geneseo to their 17th overall men's title. At the NCAA regional championships, Garcia-Cassani placed second (24:19.2) to lead the Knights to their third straight regional win. In the culminating race of his cross country career, he finished sixth in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and earned his third All-American honor. 

Coach of the Year - Dan Moore, Geneseo

Moore has been awarded Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the second straight season. In his three seasons, Moore has built upon Geneseo's history of success as one of the premier cross country programs in the country. This season, Moore guided his men's team to a conference championship, an Atlantic Region Championship, and an eleventh-place finish at the National Championship in Elsah, Illinois.  Moore was also named Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year in the Atlantic Region by USTFCCCA.
