The 2010-2011 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Basketball Playoff field has been set, with eight teams battling for a chance to win the postseason conference championship and earn the SUNYAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The playoffs begin Tuesday February 22, with the top four seeds hosting the quarterfinals at 7pm.

The highest remaining seed will host the semifinals and finals, which are to run from Friday through Saturday, Feb. 25-26. The two winners will meet Saturday in the championship game.

Before the action begins, here are the top 25 quick facts you should know about the conference tournament.

Top 25 Countdown:

1. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) will employ an eight team tournament format (non-divisional) for the 13th straight year. From the 1983-84 season to 1997-98 season divisional play was used to determine the top seeds.
*For the purpose of the countdown quick facts 1-16 will be based on the current tournament format years 1999-2011.

2. Six of the eight teams that qualified for the 2010 SUNYAC Tournament return again this season. The absentees are Potsdam and Fredonia. The newcomers are Plattsburgh and Brockport.

3. Cortland, Geneseo and Oneonta have qualified for the SUNYAC tournament each year.

4. Only three SUNYAC Tournaments - in 2001, 2004, 2008 - have gone exactly according to seeding.
 
5. This is the second time Geneseo will serve as the number one seed. Previous year was 2003, when #1 Geneseo was upset by #8 Fredonia in the quarterfinals.

6. Since the league scrapped a divisional format in 1998-99, the top four seeds are all 11-1 in their opening game of the SUNYAC Tournament.
7. Cortland has been a top four seed each year of the non-divisional tournament format.
 
8. New Paltz earns a top four seed for the fifth straight year, all under Head Coach Jamie Seward. The Hawks advanced to the tournament three times prior to Seward’s arrival (2001 – 7th, 2004 – 7th, 2006 – 8th).
 
9. Oneonta has been in the top four ten times.
 
10. Three of the top four seeds have advanced to the semifinals each year, with all four advancing eight times. The number 5, 6, 7, and 8 seeds have only advanced to the semifinals once. (No. 5 – 2002; No.6 – 2006; No. 7 – 2009; No. 8 – 2003).
 
11. A top four seed has won the championship title each year. Brockport was the lowest seed (#4) to win the title in 2009.

12. The #1 seed has advanced to the finals 10 times in the past 12 years, winning the championship eight times.
 
13. The No. 2 seed has won the championship twice in six trips to the finals, No. 3 is 1-4 in the finals and No. 4 seed is 1-2 in the championship.
 
14. The only lower seed to advance to the finals in the current tournament format was No. 7 seed – Potsdam in 2009.

15. Plattsburgh last advanced to the semifinals in 2002, Buffalo State last advanced to the semifinals in 2003.

16. Cortland has advanced to the semifinals each year of the current tournament format. (The last time the Red Dragons didn’t advance was in the 1994-1995 season).

18. Teams winning consecutive SUNYAC titles are Buffalo State, which did it twice (1983-84 to 1987-88 and 1990 and 91), along with Geneseo (1995, 1996), Cortland (1999 and 2000) and Brockport (2008 and 2009).
 
19. Geneseo and Brockport have only met three times in the SUNYAC tournament with Geneseo holding the advantage 2-1.
 
20. Oneonta and Plattsburgh have also only met three times in the conference tournament. The Red Dragons have won two times and the Cardinals once.
 
21. Tuesday’s quarterfinal will mark the 12th SUNYAC postseason tip-off between Cortland and Buffalo State. The Bengals hold a 6-5 advantage.
 
22. New Paltz and Oswego have never met in the postseason. But during the 2010-2011 regular season, the Hawks defeated the Lakers twice. The blue and orange played host to the Lakers on Jan. 25 and won, 77-48, and prevailed on the road, 68-53, on Feb. 15. In addition, the blue and orange have gone undefeated at home this season in conference play.
 
23. SUNYAC Championship games have historically been tightly contested affairs. Three games have been decided by exactly one point. A total of seven have been decided by five points or less and 17 by ten or fewer points.

24. On the season, the four teams hosting quarterfinal games - Geneseo (11-0), Oneonta (10-1), New Paltz (11-2) and Cortland (9-2) - are a combined 41-5 (.891) at home.
 
25. Geneseo’s 21 straight SUNYAC Tournament appearances from 1991-11 is a league record. Oneonta and Cortland have made 18 and 17 consecutive appearances, respectively.
