New Paltz's Shaw and Baldinger Take SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - New Paltz teammates Kaitlyn Shaw and Mia Baldinger are the SUNYAC Women's Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.

For the second week in a row, Shaw has been named the SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week. She led the Hawks to two more wins registering 12 points in two games. In a 14-5 home opening win over Kean, Shaw tallied two goals and two assists with two draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. With her second goal of the game, not only did it give the Hawks a 9-2 lead to end the third, keeping momentum shifted for her team, but the score also officially made her the program's all-time goals leader with 131 career goals. She surpassed the feat in three years, surpassing a record that was held since 2012. She then was the team's point-leader in a 22-5 rout of St. Joseph's-Long Island, totaling eight with a team-high five goals with three assists to go along with six draw controls.

Baldinger had a career week for the Hawks. The sophomore totaled two ground balls with a caused turnover, to go along with a goal and two assists in a 14-5 win over Kean Wednesday. Against St. Joseph's-Long Island, she was the catalyst in a 22-5 rout. Down two players defensively, Baldinger was moved into the backer role of the Hawks zone defense and thrived playing in the spot for the first time. Baldinger forced eight caused turnovers - which was one shy of tying the single game program record that was set by teammate Morgan Woolley two days prior, surpassing the previous record of six. She also added a team- and career-high six ground balls with three goals and a game-high five assists with a game-high eight points.
