Merlin Joseph Jr. Joins Lakers Staff As Assistant Director For Student-Athlete Success

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego State Athletics Assistant Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Wendy McManus has named Merlin Joseph Jr. as the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Success

"We are excited to announce Merlin as our Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Success" McManus said. "During the search process, Merlin's commitment to academic and athletic success and experience as a DIII student-athlete and coach stood out amongst a highly competitive pool of candidates. We are excited for the immediate impact he will have with our student-athletes, our department and campus."

Joseph has most recently served as the Student Success Specialist for Athletes at Hartwick College, starting in January 2021. In this position, the Binghamton native coordinated and implemented orientation activities for student-athletes, implemented student-athlete retention strategies, acted and renewed academic support programs and services such as study skills, time management, life skills and career planning. 

Joseph also served as an Athletic Communications Assistant, starting in July of 2022 while still holding his position as the Student Success Specialist. In this position, at Hartwick College, Merlin assisted with the development and communication of Game Day protocols for every sport, composed post game releases, updated program records and conducted interviews with athletes and coaches.  

Merlin had a stint as the Interim Cross Country / Track and Field Coach at Hartwick College in the Fall of 2022. This came after he finished his Graduate Assistantship at the University of Connecticut as Director of Operations for the Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field teams in the 2019-20 season.
