Cortland at Top of SUNYAC Fall Commissioner's Cup Standings

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After the completion of the 2023 SUNYAC fall championships, Cortland is at the top of the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings with an average of 9.43 points. Geneseo is second and Brockport is third.

The cup was named after Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 following his retirement as the SUNYAC Commissioner. Dr. Damore served in the position for 33 years.

Cortland finished the regular-season ranked No. 1 in field hockey, men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball. The Red Dragons went on to win all four SUNYAC championships. Cortland men's wrestling also finished first at the conference championship meet. In addition the men's and women's cross country teams finished third at the league championship meet.

Geneseo won its 12th straight women's cross country championship and ninth consecutive men's cross country team title in 2023. The Knights were the third seed in field hockey and volleyball after the regular season, but both teams ended their season in the conference semifinals. The men's and women's soccer teams were both ranked sixth going into post season play, but did not make it past the first round of competition.

Brockport men's and women's soccer teams were ranked second after regular season league play. Women's soccer played their way to the conference finals for the Golden Eagles, but lost to Cortland 3-0. The women's volleyball and field hockey teams were ranked fourth going into post season play, but both finished their season in the semifinals. The men's cross country team finished second at the 2023 SUNYAC meet while the women were sixth.

The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 22 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.
