SUNYAC Announces 2024 Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup Winter Standings

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Following the completion of the 2024 SUNYAC winter championships, Cortland remains at the top of the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings with an average of 8.95 points. Geneseo holds the second place spot with 8.37 points followed by Brockport with 7.11 points.

The cup was named for Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 when he retired as the SUNYAC Commissioner after serving in the position for 33 years.

Cortland won the men's ice hockey championship for the first time in program history and the women's ice hockey team won the first-ever SUNYAC trophy this year. The men's and women's indoor track and field teams placed second and third respectively at the SUNYAC championship. The Red Dragons men's and women's swimming and diving teams both took second at the 2024 conference meet. Cortland women's basketball team was the No. 2 seed after regular season play while the men's basketball team was the No. 4 seed and advanced to the semifinals.

Geneseo captured four winter championships this year earning the conference crown in men's and women's indoor track and field and men's and women's swimming and diving. The Knights also earned points as the the top seed after regular season play in men's ice hockey. Women's basketball earned points for Geneseo after advancing to the conference final as the No. 3 seed.

Brockport claimed the third spot in the Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings. The men's basketball team earned the No. 3 seed after regular season play while women's basketball was No. 4 and men's ice hockey was No. 5. The Golden Eagles also earned points from the women's indoor track and field team placing second at the conference meet and the men placing third while the women's swimming and diving team had a third place finish at the SUNYAC championship meet.

The final SUNYAC Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings will be released in May after the spring championships.

The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter, and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points, and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year. View the complete Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup list here.
