Kreider and Misla Named SUNYAC Baseball Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – New Paltz's Tommy Kreider is the SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week and Cortland's Luis Misla is the Pitcher of the Week.

Kreider continued his breakout season for the Hawks, hitting .714 through four games on the week to help his team to a series win over Fredonia, and a non-conference victory over Maritime. Against the Priveteers, he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI, two walks and knocked two doubles while slugging 1.250. In a program record setting offensive performance in a 30-2 win over the Blue Devils in game one, Kreider was nearly perfect at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with five runs and an RBI. In game two, the Hawks produced just four hits, one coming from Kreider as he also added a walk, while batting .333 in the game with a on-base-percentage of .500. In game three, he was actually perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two runs, a double, three walks and a stolen base, hitting 1.000, with an obp of 1.000 and slugging percentage of 1.500. On the week offensively, he totaled 10 hits, 10 runs, three doubles, two RBI, six walks and three stolen bases, striking out just once, while averaging .714 at the plate, .800 on base percentage and slugging percentage of .929. Defensively, he solidified second base with a perfect fielding percentage, totaling 18 total catches, 11 putouts, seven assists and turned two double plays, both pivotal, as it kept the game tied at 12-12 in the eighth against Maritime where they later won, 14-12 in extras and game-ending in a game three win over Fredonia to secure an 8-3 victory and the series.

Misla was dominant on the mound in two Cortland victories during the week. In a 4-1 win at Oneonta on Monday, Misla tossed a complete-game three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and two walks. On Saturday in a 3-0 home victory over Plattsburgh, he tossed five no-hit innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. Misla finished the week with a 0.64 ERA, three hits allowed, 21 strikeouts and four walks in 14 innings.
