Cortland’s Mat Bruno Named to D3baseball.com National Team of the Week

SUNY Cortland graduate student Mat Bruno (Rye) has been named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week for the week ending April 14. The team consists of the top players for the week, by position, among all Division III schools. Bruno is one of five outfielders honored for the week.

Bruno batted .588 (10-for-17) with a homer, triple, three doubles, 13 RBI and nine runs scored in a 4-0 week for the Red Dragons. He recorded at least two hits in each game, and he became Cortland's career leader with 175 RBI.

Bruno started the week by going 2-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI in an 11-7 win at Rochester Wednesday. He was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and three runs in a 9-6 win versus visiting Castleton Thursday, and on Sunday he went a combined 5-for-8 with a homer, double, six RBI and five runs in a doubleheader sweep at Rosemont.

In 28 games this season, Bruno is batting .402 with four homers, three triples, nine doubles, 34 RBI, 30 runs and seven steals.

Cortland (19-8-1, 9-0 SUNYAC) has won 13 straight games. The Red Dragons are scheduled to play a three-game league series at Oswego this weekend with a single game Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
