SUNYAC announces Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Awards

CORTLAND, NY - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected this week's Field Hockey Athletes of the Week.  New Paltz's Megan Gangwere has been selected as Defensive Athlete of the Week, and Kendra Walker of Oswego has been selected as Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Oswego's Kendra Walker had a goal in each of the Lakers' games this past week, as well as an assist in their 4-1 win over Wells College. Also in the win over Wells, Walker had five shots with all five shots on goal. Her five shots and five shots on goal were a career high. The Lakers' two wins this week were their first of the season.  The Lakers will travel to Keuka Park, NY to face Keuka College in a non-conference matchup this Wednesday.

Megan Gangwere notched a shutout against Morrisville en route to a 5-0 victory for the Hawks.  The senior from Nazareth, PA also set a personal career high in saves with 26 against nationally-ranked University of Rochester, and recorded a .897 save percentage. The Hawks of New Paltz will kick off SUNYAC conference play this Friday with a home contest against Brockport.
