SUNYAC selects Reinoehl and Welsh for field hockey's Athlete of the Week Awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - In the final week of the 2017 field hockey regular season, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces its Defensive and Offensive Athletes of the Week. This week's Offensive Athlete of the Week is the junior forward from Cortland, Jessica Welsh (Hamilton, N.Y.). For the second week in a row, the Defensive Athlete of the Week is the junior goalie from Cortland, Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA).

Welsh helped lead Cortland to a pair of home victories last week with eight points on four goals. In a 6-0 win versus Nazareth on Wednesday, Welsh scored three goals. She became just the 12th player in program history to reach 100 career points. She then added a goal in a 6-0 win over 18th ranked Skidmore, which gave her 101 career points. For the season, Welsh leads the team with 34 points on 13 goals and eight assists. The Red Dragons stretched their winning streak to 10 consecutive games.

Reinoehl posted a 2-0 record with a pair of shutouts this week. In a 6-0 win versus Nazareth on Wednesday, Reinoehl made a pair of saves in the win. She then posted her sixth shutout of the season as Cortland blanked 18th-ranked Skidmore, 6-0. For the season, Reinoehl has a 15-3 record with a 0.82 GAA, 98 saves and a .875 save percentage. This is Reinoehl second athlete of the week award in the past two weeks.
