Cortland sweeps this week's Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Athlete of the Week Awards

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected two Cortland Red Dragons as this week's Field Hockey Offense and Defensive Athletes of the Week. Anna Branch has been chosen as this week's Offense Athlete of the Week, and teammate Megan Redmond has been chosen as Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Cortland's Anna Branch led the Red Dragons (9-3) to a pair of non-conference road wins last week with seven points on two goals and three assists as Cortland stretched its winning streak to four games. In an 8-0 win at St. Lawrence on Wednesday, Branch scored the game winner early in the contest and added two assists. She followed up with Cortland's first goal and an assist on the game-winning score in the second half in a 2-1 triumph at Utica on Sunday. For the season, Branch leads the Red Dragons with 21 points on seven goals and seven assists.

Megan Redmond helped lead the Red Dragons to two non-conference wins last week with two defensive saves as they took down St. Lawrence and Utica. As the Red Dragons defeated St. Lawrence, 8-0 on Wednesday, Redmond anchored the Cortland defense to its third consecutive shutout. In a 2-1 victory at Utica on Sunday, she made a defensive save in the 48th minute to preserve a 1-0 lead, and added a second defensive save in the 64th minute to retain Cortland's 2-1 lead and helped seal the win. The Red Dragons will travel to Oswego this Wednesday in their next conference matchup.
