SUNYAC selects a pair of Red Dragons for Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNYAC would like to announce it's Defensive and Offensive Athletes of the Week in field hockey. This week's Defensive and Offensive Athletes of the Week both come from Cortland. The defensive athlete is junior goalie Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, Pa.), and the offensive athlete is the senior, Megan O'Brien (Carmel, N.Y.).

Reinoehl helped the Red Dragons post a pair of key home conference victories over the weekend to clinch the top seed in the upcoming SUNYAC championship. In a vital 2-1 win Friday versus Oneonta, who was leading the conference, Reinoehl turned aside four shots, all in the second half, as Cortland held off the visiting Red Dragons. Reinoehl then registered 10 saves in a 5-0 blanking of New Paltz on Saturday as Cortland won its eighth straight game and secured the top seed in the SUNYAC.

O'Brien scored three goals in two home SUNYAC wins for the Red Dragons. In a 2-1 victory against the then undefeated Oneonta on Friday, O'Brien tallied both goals just under 13 minutes apart in the first half. She then added a goal late in a 5-0 win versus New Paltz on Saturday that clinched the top seed.
