Holder and Lessman Earn SUNYAC Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Oneonta's Joe Holder has been selected as the SUNYAC Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week while Cortland's Alex Lessman was named the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Holder netted two crucial game-winning goals for the No. 12 SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team as they went 2-0 in SUNYAC play last week. In the 54th minute of a scoreless match against New Paltz, Holder stole the ball from the Hawks goalie for an open shot and the lone score in Oneonta's 1-0 victory. On Saturday, the Red Dragons were tied late into the match with Geneseo until Holder received the ball inside the box and nutmegged the Knights goalie in the 88th minute for a 2-1 win.

Lessman anchored a Cortland defense that allowed just three shots on goal in a pair of victories last week. In a 4-0 home win versus Ithaca on Wednesday, the Bombers managed just three first-half shots on goal and none on goal in the second half. The streak of no shots on goal extended to 144 consecutive minutes when the 24th-ranked Red Dragons defeated Fredonia, 7-0, on the road Saturday. Lessman played 169 of a possible 180 minutes in the two games.
