Coughlan and Kowa Take SUNYAC Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Plattsburgh's Brian Coughlan has been named the SUNYAC Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week while Yousif Kowa from Buffalo State has been named the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Couhglan posted his second brace of the season on Saturday, scoring twice in the second half against Fredonia to lead his team to a 2-0 win. Coughlan tied the game in the 64th minute, working around two defenders in the box to score the equalizer. The junior was then called upon to take a penalty kick in the 83rd minute and scored the game-winner, notching his third penalty conversion in three tries this year.

Kowa was the leader of the Buffalo State defense, while also providing a spark to the offense, in a 2-0 week for the Bengals that included a pair of crucial SUNYAC victories over Geneseo and Potsdam. The senior center back scored a goal and registered an assist, while also helping the Bengals' back line allow just one goal over two games. Against Geneseo on Wednesday afternoon, Kowa played all 90 minutes of action, helping to keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory. He followed it up on Saturday by being involved in both Buffalo State goals in a 2-1 victory over Potsdam. Kowa headed a pass across goal for an assist on the opening Bengals' goal in the 14th minute of the contest, then netted from close range for the game-winning goal in the 39th minute to secure the victory. Led by Kowa on defense, Buffalo State also allowed just two shots on target in the match.
