Meyers and Westenberg Take SUNYAC Softball Weekly Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects Cortland's Gina Meyers and Kim Westenberg as its Softball Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week.

Meyers batted .615 (8-for-13) with three triples, a double, three RBI and seven scored in a 4-0 weekend for Cortland. She finished the week with a 1.154 slugging percentage. Meyers extended her school-record hitting streak to 31 games (every game she's played in this season) - only six players previously in NCAA Division III history had hitting streaks of at least 31 games entering this year. In a sweep of Plattsburgh Saturday, Meyers was a combined 5-for-7 with two triples, two RBI and four runs. She also went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, RBI and three runs in a win over Potsdam Friday.

Westenberg allowed only three hits and no walks and struck out 12 batters in 10 innings as she shut out both Potsdam and Plattsburgh. She tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts in an 8-0, five-inning win over Potsdam Friday, followed by a two-hit shutout with three strikeouts in a 13-0, five-inning win versus Plattsburgh Saturday.
