CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Plattsburgh sophomore Jimmy Poreda (Tonawanda, N.Y.) as Goaltender of the Week, Geneseo junior Andrew Romano (Drexel Hill, Pa.) as Player of the Week, and Oswego freshman Travis Broughman (Mechanicsville, Va.) as the Rookie of the Week.
Poreda backstopped the Cardinals to a pair of wins over the weekend, fashioning a .955 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average. His performances helped Plattsburgh State clinch a SUNYAC Tournament berth. He turned aside 25 shots in a 4-0 shutout win over Buffalo State on Friday before making 17 saves in a 3-2 victory over Fredonia on Saturday. Poreda ranks among NCAA Division III leaders in shutouts (tied for 10th, 3) save percentage (14th, .933) and goals-against average (18th, 1.96).
Romano helped Geneseo clinch a bye for the SUNYAC Tournament with a 3-0 win over Cortland on Friday and then scored four points in the Knights' 4-4 tie at No. 4 Oswego, Saturday. After notching an assist against the Red Dragons, he scored the first goal of the game and then assisted the other three against the Lakers, including the game-tying goal midway through the third period. Currently ranked first in Division III with 32 assists and fifth with 39 points, he also notched his 100th-career point in the Oswego game.
Broughman had a big weekend, recording four points on three goals and an assist, helping the Lakers to go 1-0-1 on the weekend. In Friday's 3-0 shutout of Brockport, the freshman added an insurance tally at 18:31 in the second period, just six seconds after returning to the ice from serving a slashing penalty. In Saturday's high-intensity contest with No. 2/2 Genseso, the Mechanicsville, Va. native helped the Lakers snap the Knights' 17-game win streak with a 4-4 (OT) tie. Both of Oswego's first period goals game by way of the forward, as he answered 2-of-3 of Genseo?s first period tallies, knotting the game at 1-1 and 2-2. His goals broke goalie Devin McDonald's scoreless streak of 258:49, the fourth longest span in NCAA Division III history. The Lakers return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday as they finish the regular season with a north-country road trip, beginning with Potsdam.
