From 1981-1997, the league consisted of two divisions, with each division winner playing for the conference’s postseason crown. In 1998, the SUNYAC converted from two division into one seven-team league, with the postseason champion determined by a double-elimination tournament. The league grew to eight teams in 2003 with the addition of Plattsburgh but dropped back to seven teams in 2009 with the departure of SUNYIT.
