Geneseo wins 2015 SUNYAC tennis title



BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Geneseo defeated New Paltz, 5-0, to capture its fifth straight and ninth overall State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tennis title, Sunday at the Binghamton Tennis Center. With the win, Geneseo earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tennis Championship in the spring.

Geneseo (11-0) took a 3-0 lead over New Paltz (6-3) after doubles play. Cat Crummey /Marylen Santos won 8-1 at first doubles, Mako Tanaka/Mai Hashimoto won 8-0 at second doubles and Lauren Salzano/Maggie Hale won 8-4 at third doubles.

The Knights sealed the match with wins in first and fifth singles. Tanaka won 6-4, 6-2 and Vanessa Lam-Tran won 6-1, 6-2.

Top seeded in the SUNYAC West division, Geneseo swept their way through the 2015 SUNYAC bracket defeating Plattsburgh on Friday and Oneonta on Saturday. This is the first conference crown for the Knights under new head coach Jason Stephens.
