SUNYAC Releases 2016 Top Volleyball Honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces the 2016 volleyball All-Conference teams and individual awards. Morgan Roessler  of New Paltz has earned the Player of the Year, while her teammate Veronica Matedero has been named as the Defensive Player of the Year. Kelly Waters of Brockport has earned Rookie of the Year Honors while Brockport's head coach Steve Pike was named Coach of the Year. All conference awards are voted on by the conference coaches.

Morgan Roessler (Sr.) Player of the Year, New Paltz, Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa

Morgan Roessler helped the Hawks to a 7-2 conference record this season. The senior outside hitter led the conference with 3.68 kills per set and a total of 409 kills overall. This aided her team into the SUNYAC tournament as the #2 seed where her team finished second.

Veronica Matedero (Jr.) Defensive Player of the Year, New Paltz, Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge 

VeVeronica Matedero ronica Matedero finished the regular season with a total of 515 digs, good for a 4.40 digs per set average. In the SUNYAC tournament, Matedero had a total of 57 digs, with 30 of those coming in the championship game against Brockport.

 

 

 

Kelly Waters (Fr.) Rookie of the Year, Brockport, Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills

Kelly Waters Kelly Waters aided Brockport to their second conference title in the past two years. Waters finished the regular season with 205 total kills and a 2.01 kills per set average. In the SUNYAC tournament, Waters had a total of 17 kills. 

 

 

 

Steve Pike, Coach of the Year, Brockport

Steve Pike

This is Steve Pike's fourth season as the Golden Eagles head coach and his second time garnering the SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors. Coach Pike led the Golden Eagles from the bottom of the conference to the top competitor in the conference winning the past two SUNYAC titles. This season, Brockport finished the conference season undefeated, 9-0, and is currently 32-3 overall heading into the NCAA Tournament.
