New Paltz sophomore middle hitter Morgan Roessler helped the Hawks go 4-0 for the week and win their eighth Hawks Invitational title, earning Tournament MVP honors in the process. She posted a .351 (38-11-77) hitting percentage across 12 sets played, averaging 3.17 kills per set, 1.00 block per set and 0.17 digs per set. Roessler boasted 13 kills, a .423 hitting percentage and four block assists in the Hawks' first match of the weekend on Friday against SUNY Fredonia, leading New Paltz to a 3-1 win. She then hit .667 (5-1-6) in a 3-0 triumph over Mount Saint Mary College on Friday night, playing in just one set. Roessler floored nine kills and totaled six blocks (one solo, five assist) in a 3-1 victory over Farleigh Dickinson University-College at Florham on Saturday morning before hitting .450 off 11 kills and two errors in 20 total attempts in the Hawks' 3-0 win over New York University on Saturday afternoon. For the season, Roessler ranks sixth in the SUNYAC in hitting percentage (.328) and ninth in the conference in blocks per set (0.92). New Paltz (10-2), which is riding a nine-match winning streak, squares off with the Stevens Institute of Technology next on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Hawk Center.
