SUNY New Paltz Set to Host SUNYAC Field Hockey Tournament

The regular season State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Champion, SUNY New Paltz, is set to host the 2012 SUNYAC Field Hockey Tournament. The semifinal games will be played Friday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  The championship game is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.

New Paltz will take on No. 4 Oneonta Friday morning. Earlier this season New Paltz came out on top in a 4-3 win over Oneonta.  The next game will feature the second seed Geneseo and the third seed Cortland. The Knights defeated the Cortland Red Dragons 2-1 in overtime October 20th.

Cortland, under head coach Cynthia Wetmore, captured the SUNYAC Field Hockey title last year and ten times since 2000 with Geneseo taking the crown in 2010.

The conference tournament champion will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Div. III tournament, which begins Wed., Nov. 7 with first round games.  The national championship weekend is scheduled for Nov. 17-18 at William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.
