Geneseo advances to finals with win against Oneonta

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior midfielder Leah Greene scored a goal while junior forward Audrey Reid added two assists to lead the Knights to a 3-0 victory over Oneonta in the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Soccer Tournament, Wednesday.

With the victory, the second-seeded Knights (9-2-5) move on to their third tournament championship match in four years where they will face top-seeded Buffalo State on Saturday (Nov. 5) at 1:00 p.m. on the road. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Geneseo got on the board in the 20th minute on a corner kick from the right side. Reid dropped a great ball onto the top of the six-yard box where Greene out-leapt the Red Dragon defense to score on a header into the heart of the goal.

The Knights made it a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute after Reid dispossessed a defender in the Oneonta midfield. The ball squirted toward the Red Dragon goal where a streaking O'Connor took control and completed her run with a 14-yard strike.

In the second half, first-year midfielder Domenica Piccoli was on the receiving end of some short Knights' passes near the top of the 18-yard box. Piccoli made a nice move to evade a Red Dragon defender to score on a 10-yard shot in the 75 minute of play for the three-goal final.

Geneseo finished the game with a 17-6 advantage in shots.
