SUNYAC honors Cossaro and Garcia-Cassani as cross country athletes of the week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces its cross country athletes of the week for their performances during the week of Oct. 10-16. 

CROSS COUNTRY FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK –
Marissa Cossaro, Geneseo

(Sr. - East Northport, N.Y.)
Cossaro finished ninth out of 386 runners to lead Geneseo to third place out of 46 teams at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan. Cossaro finished the 6K course in a time of 21:06.9 in a field that included 13 nationally-ranked teams. 

CROSS COUNTRY MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK –
Isaac Garcia-Cassani, Geneseo
(Jr. - Holbrook, N.Y.)
Garcia-Cassani bested the 383-runner field to lead the top-ranked Knights to first place out of a stacked field at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan on Saturday. Garcia-Cassani logged a winning time of 23:19.9 in the 8K race, pulling away from the field for a win by nearly eight seconds. The victory was his fourth of the season after also winning the Oswego Invitational (Sept. 10), the Williams' Purple Valley Classic (Sept. 24) and the Geneseo Mike Woods Invitational (Oct. 1). Saturday's field included nine nationally-ranked teams, including No. 5 MIT, No. 11 RPI, and No. 13 St. Lawrence.
