
Schartner and Nochowitz Take Home SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Honors
SYRACUSE N.Y. - Cortland completed a sweep of this week's Baseball Athlete of the Week honors, with Luke Schartner winning Athlete of the Week, and Matthew Nochowitz repeating as Pitcher of the Week.
Schartner batted .500 (8-for-16) with two homers, three doubles, three walks, 12 RBI and seven runs scored in four Cortland victories. He finished the week with a 1.063 slugging percentage. Schartner tied a school single-game record with nine RBI in a 16-4 win at Canton on Friday. He's the third player in school history with nine RBI in a game and the first since 1993. He finished that game 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and two three-run doubles, and in the second game of the doubleheader he went 3-for-6 with a solo homer, double and two runs scored. Scharnter also went 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and four runs scored in a win over John Jay on Tuesday.
Nochowitz tossed seven strong scoreless innings to earn the win in a 14-0 victory at Canton on Friday. He allowed just five hits with no walks and struck out 11 batters.
