Geneseo Field Hockey Travels to Keene State (N.H.) for NCAA Tournament Opener

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team will take on Keene State (N.H.) on Wednesday (Nov. 9) at 2 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, announced late Sunday night. 

The winner of the match will travel to Mechanicsburg, Pa. to take on Messiah, which was ranked No. 1 in the latest National Field Hockey Coach's Association Division III poll, on Saturday, Nov. 12. 

Keene State (20-3) won its fourth-consecutive Little East Championship with a 5-0 win over Southern Maine on Saturday. The Owls are making their 10th NCAA Division III Tournament appearance, including its fifth in the last six seasons.

After starting the season with a 1-8 record, Geneseo (11-9) enters the NCAA Tournament having won 10 of its last 11 games, including a 3-2 overtime victory over Oneonta in the SUNYAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday to clinch its second conference title and first since 2010.

Junior forward Giovanna Fasanello was named SUNYAC Tournament MVP after scoring three goals, including the game-winner 6:22 into extra time. She leads Geneseo with 18 goals and 12 assists, including 14 goals and eight assists during the team's 10-1 run to the postseason. 

Geneseo last played in the NCAA Tournament in 2010, falling at Stevens (N.J.), 1-0, in a first-round match to finish the season with a school-record 18-2 mark.
