Oneonta and Oswego win semifinal matchups; advance to SUNYAC men's basketball championship

OSWEGO, N.Y.- In Friday night's semifinal action, taking place at Max Ziel Gym in Oswego, Oneonta and Oswego were able to pick up big wins.  The Red Dragons and the Lakers will play each other in the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday, February 25 at 4:00 p.m.  

In the first semifinal matchup, Oneonta powered to a 85-72 victory over Brockport. Up 38-36 at halftime, the Red Dragons amassed 47 second-half points to pull away from the Golden Eagles late. Lawrence Coleman paced Oneonta with 24 points and 3 steals while Frankie Kelly poured in 21 points of his own.  

The second semifinal saw Oswego and Buffalo State battle down to the wire.  After regulation, the score was tied at 76.  In the five minute overtime session, the Lakers were able to outlast the Bengals, 84-83.  Brian Sortino put up a game-high 48 points for Oswego on 13-25 shooting from the field.  

Oneonta advances to the SUNYAC Championship game looking to win their first men's basketball title in program history. Oswego heads into the championship looking to avenge their 77-74 loss to Cortland in last year's final and win their seventh title overall and first since 2015.
