Cortland's Phelps and Scalise selected as Men's Lacrosse Athlete and Goalie of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its first 2018 Men's Lacrosse Goalie and Athlete of the Week.

Devin Phelps from Cortland is this week's Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week. He led the seventh-ranked Red Dragons to a pair of road wins last week with nine points on three goals and two assists and added six ground balls and two caused turnovers. In a season-opening 13-8 victory at Scranton on Tuesday, Phelps totaled six points on one goal and five assists and recorded six ground balls and two caused turnovers. He then tallied two goals and one assist as Cortland defeated Nazareth, 13-6, on Thursday.

Senior Joe Scalise from Cortland is this week's Mens Lacrosse Goalie of the Week. Scalise helped lead the Red Dragons to a pair of road wins last week to open the season, posting a 2-0 record with 20 saves, a 58.8 save percentage and a 7.00 GAA. In a 13-8 victory at Scranton on Tuesday, he turned aside 12 shots and collected four ground balls. He also followed with eight saves and three ground balls in a 13-6 win at Nazareth on Thursday, allowing just two second-half goals as the Red Dragons pulled away in the final 30 minutes.
