GENESEO MEN'S ICE HOCKEY ADVANCES TO NCAA FROZEN FOUR WITH 2-1 WIN OVER WILLIAMS

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Arthur Gordon scored a pair of first-period goals that proved to be the difference as the Knights defeated visiting Williams, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament, Saturday.

Geneseo (20-4-6) advances to play Wisconsin-Stevens point, which defeated Adrian (Mich.) 5-2 in the night's other action, in the Frozen Four on Friday (March 25) in a game to be played at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. It is Geneseo's second national semifinal appearance in the last three years after also making the program's first appearance in 2014.

First-year forward Brodie Tutton dug a loose puck off the boards to the right of the Ephs net to junior forward RJ Burns, who sent a pass to Gordon in the low slot for a shot inside the right post that put the Knights on the board, 1-0, at 9:49 of the first.

With 2:03 left in the period, Tutton hit a breaking Gordon with a cross-ice feed down the left boards at the Ephs' blue line. Gordon was able to elude two Williams defenders to score on a back-handed flip over Ephs first-year goalie Michael Pinios inside the right post for what proved to be the game-winning tally.

Senior forward Colby Cretella put Williams (19-6-2) on the board with a close-range shot in the low slot at 11:18 of the third period but it was first-year goalie Devin McDonald totaling 31 saves to preserve the win as Geneseo ran its record to 13-0-4 in its last 17 games.
