Championship Brackets set for winter sports

CORTLAND, N.Y. - With the completion of regular-season competition Saturday night, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) basketball and ice hockey brackets are set for the 2015-16 championships.

For basketball, the top-seeded teams earn the right to host the semifinals and finals on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27. The #3 and #4 seeds will host the first round games on Tuesday, February 23.

Ice hockey championships will start with the #3 and #4 seeds hosting the playoff games on Wednesday, February 24 and continue with the semifinals on campus of the #1 and #2, Saturday, February 27. The championship game is set for Saturday, March 5 at the higher seed.

Plattsburgh men's basketball finished 16-2 in conference play to take the top-seed and the home court advantage for the semifinals and finals. The Cardinals earned a bye into the semifinals along side #2 Cortland (12-6). In the first round #6 Buffalo State (9-9) will travel to #3 Brockport and #5 Geneseo will go to #4 Oswego to play at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Full Bracket

Oswego won the SUNYAC men's basketball crown last year. Top-seeded Plattsburgh has won six championships overall with the last in 2010.

New Paltz women's basketball clinched the top seed finishing 14-4 in conference play. The Hawks and #2 Geneseo (14-14) earned a bye into the semifinals. #3 Fredonia (13-5) will host #6 Brockport (9-9) while #4 Cortland will host #5 Oneonta at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Full Bracket 

Geneseo won the women's basketball conference title last year. Top-seeded New Paltz won its lone SUNYAC championship in 2013.

Plattsburgh (12-1-3) captured the ice hockey regular-season title and top-seed going into the conference championships. The Cardinals and No. 2 Buffalo State (11-4-1) earned a bye into the semifinals. The first round will be #3 Geneseo (9-2-5) hosting #6 Potsdam (7-6-2) and #4 Oswego (8-7-1) hosting #5 Brockport (6-6-4) Full Bracket

Top-seeded Plattsburgh won its 22 overall SUNYAC title in 2015.
