Steve Beville Guides Iroquois to First-Ever Bronze Medal at World Championships

SUNY Cortland men's lacrosse head coach Steve Beville served as the head coach for the Iroquois Nationals at the 2014 FIL World Lacrosse Championships and led the team to a bronze-medal finish for its first ever medal.

Playing in the top "Blue" division at the 38-team tournament in Denver in mid-July, the Iroquois Nationals finished 3-2 in divisional play with wins over England, Japan and Australia, a one-goal loss to eventual world champion Canada, and a loss to the United States. The Iroquois then defeated Scotland in the quarterfinals, lost to Canada, 12-6, in the semifinals, and won the bronze medal with a 16-5 victory versus Australia in the third-place game.

Beville is 142-22 (.866) in eight seasons at Cortland. He led the Red Dragons to the 2009 NCAA Div. III title, as well as national runner-up finishes in 2007, 2008 and 2012, semifinal appearances and 2010 and 2013, and quarterfinal showings in 2001 and 2014. He also coached at Colorado College for 10 years from 1989-98 and at the University of Vermont for eight years from 1999-2006.
